Colorado Attorney Advertising Guidelines
Colorado is relatively friendly when it comes to attorney advertising guidelines which makes it easier to market your law firm, provided you stay within the stated parameters of Rule 7.2 of the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct.
In Colorado, lawyers are allowed to:

- Refer clients pursuant to an agreement that is not prohibited under the Rules, provided the reciprocal agreement is not exclusive and the client is aware of the agreement
Advertising rules in Colorado permit lawyers to:
- Pay for referrals
- Pay for advertisements
- Pay for lead generation
- List references with a client’s permission
- List client names with permission

Talking about your law firm in Colorado
In Colorado, an attorney may not state of imply that they are certified as a specialist in an area of law unless they have been certified as a such by an organization approved by an appropriate state authority or accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA). The name of the particular certifying organization has to be clearly identified in communications (ie: Certified Elder Law Attorney by the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys).
Law firms may use a trade name, meaning you do not have to use the traditional styling for firm names including the names of partners. The United States Supreme Court has held that legislation may prohibit the use of trade names. However, use of such names is acceptable so long as it is not misleading.
However, the name of an attorney who holds a public office may not be used in the law firm’s name or in any communications, during any prolonged period that the attorney is not actively practicing with the firm.
Colorado does not require law firms to send in their websites for review prior to launch. However, the provisions of the North Carolina Rules of Professional Conduct that address legal advertising should be applied to the content of your law firm's website to avoid any reports of infractions by third parties.
